For four years we have been inviting U3A members from neighbouring branches to come to our monthly 2 hours of opera DVDs, on screen, in a 200 seat theatre.

Our purpose is more therapeutic than academic, didactic or educational.  Opera is a powerful life-enhancing beneficent drug, however late the dosage is delayed.  Weeping for Mimi or Violetta is good for one, whether 3^rd Age, 4^th Age etc.

The playing of just two programmes in Blu-Ray would seem effectively to have killed off DVDs as a waste of our limited time.  I am currently in shock over the unforeseen realisation of how well we will be experiencing the world's best opera houses, month by month.
