PLEASE NOTE - the regular meeting time has been changed to the SECOND FRIDAY IN THE MONTH - in response to a request by the new Opera Group. the change was made easier by the relatively few members of the Group.
The Poetry Group is a small friendly group which meets in members' houses on the second Friday of each month. The Group chooses the poets or topics they wish to explore. If a particular poet is chosen, one member will give an introduction of about 20 minutes of their life and work, before we all read our favourite poems by that author and discuss them. If a topic has been chosen for that month, each member will have chosen 4 or 5 poems on the topic and we read round the group, discussing new poets and poems members have found. In this way over the past year we have considered the life and work of Dylan Thomas, Tennyson, Blake and Eliot, and discovered poems by our favourite 20 century poets, as well as minor Victorians. Topics we have covered have included "Childhood" (which as well as the romantic threw up many of the traumas of children), "the Sea", "Animals and birds", "poems for a Summer Evening" (at our annual August party).
The group no longer has a convenor, so any future meeting will be on an informal basis
