The Family History Group meet on the second Thursday of each month. At present we have about seventeen members and still use their homes for our meetings. We share our knowledge and experiences in tracing our family history and discuss various aspects of research. The subject has become very popular since the recent TV programmes and the information which is on the internet has increased rapidly over the last couple of years. However, you do not need a computer to trace your ancestors, much research has been and is still being carried out by the traditional methods. As well as house meetings we do go as a group to various venues, during the past twelve months we have visited the Public Records Office at Kew, Family Records Centre, London, Latter Day Saints, Staines and the Local Studies Centre, Aylesbury. Visits planned for the Spring are to the Newspaper Library at Colindale and a return visit to the Family Records Centre. Family History is, of course a very individual subject and much solitary research takes place, but I think meeting as a group gives us encouragement to carry on , and as always in the U3A we laugh and learn together. |
New Members are always welcome
