Computer Users

Meeting Date & Time: 2nd Wednesday, 9.50 for 10.00 am

Contact:

Location:

United Reform Church, Crab Tree Cl., Holtspur

The normal format of our meetings can be loosely described as a “chat room” forum.  Typically, members raise topical matters of general computer interest or bring along problems in the hope that other members know how to solve them.  Occasionally, a member, or an outsider with specialised knowledge gives a presentation on a computer related subject.  This is often involves the use of our U3A’s laptop and digital projector.  Additionally, we have conducted workshops on computer related topics, such as word processing, presentation graphics, digital imaging and e-mail.  The workshops took place on Saturday mornings at the Buckinghamshire & Chilterns University College in High Wycombe.  The College allows us the use of one of their well equipped computer suites. Further workshops are planned.

The experience level of our members range from newcomers to computing, to those with quite a few years of playing with computers.  Do come along and share your experience with us.  You will be welcome.

Here is the first of an occasional series of computer tips for SBU3A members with computers.

* To enter the date in a "Word" document without typing it, click "Insert" on Menu Bar, click "Date and Time" from menu, and from the dialogue box select preferred date format, e.g. "22 May 2005". Click "default", and click yes to confirm and OK to exit. (Do not tick "Update automatically" as this will change the dates in all your "Word" files to current date.) To use, click Insert/Date and Time/OK.

* When entering the date manually, you may find trailing numbers after the year. To get rid of them permanently, open any "Word" document and in the Menu Bar, click on Insert/Autotext/Autotext. From the dialogue box, select the Autotext tab, and click on the tick against "Show AutoComplete..." to remove it. Click OK to return to your "Word" document.
